ALI SUKHANVER

Ali display picEvery word has its own taste and own flavour; some words are sweet and some are bitter and some are sugar coated. If you feel any difficulty in understanding what are the ‘Sugar Coated’ words, just go through the following few lines. I have copied these lines from Face Book page of the Georgetown University. Under the title of Asian Studies, the details of an interview with Mr. Hussain Haqqani have been posted. These lines are written in the introduction to that interview. ‘What does Pakistan’s future hold? Can one imagine a prosperous democratic Pakistan in which Read More »PREDICTING PAKISTAN’S FUTURE??

INDIAN CRUELTIES IN KASHMIR

ALI SUKHANVER

According to a recent report, an estimated 68,000 people have died in the fighting and ensuing crackdown by Indian forces till now. Resentment over Indian rule in the disputed region is now mostly expressed through street protests. The people of Kashmir have to face a new kind of atrocity at the hands of the Indian security forces every day but the cruelest one is the disgrace of Kashmiri women. Dr Anjana Chatterjee is a Kolkata based activist and anthropologist. While speaking at a seminar ‘Experience of Detainees’ in Srinagar, Chatterjee referred to a Human Rights Watch report, ‘Disgracing of women is being used as a war weapon by the Indian Army to punish Kashmiris for their demand of right to self-determination, 7000 Kashmiri women have yet been gang raped in homes, streets and army camps by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir.’ This situation calls for sincere attention and efforts of the international forces who claim to be the care-takers of the suffering humanity throughout the world.Read More »INDIAN CRUELTIES IN KASHMIR

NEW DAYS FOR BALOCHISTAN

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali SukhanverThe asylum application filed by Nawab Akbar Bugti’s grandson Brahamdagh Bugti has been rejected by the Swiss immigration authorities. This rejection was on the basis of Pakistan’s decision of declaring him a terrorist. Pakistan had declared Brahamdagh Bugti-led Baloch Republican Party BRP as a terrorist organization. It is something very positive on the part of the Swiss government that it honoured the decision of Pakistan and did not accept Brahamdagh’s application for asylum. The decision of the Swiss government is a proof that the whole world is united against the menace of terrorism. Terrorism is such a horrible scourge that its remedy is next to impossible unless all countries get united against it.  Pakistan has expressed gratitude to the Swiss government for turning down the political asylum plea submitted by this self-exiled Baloch separatist leader. Certainly this situation would be very painful for Brahamdagh Bugti; he is a tribal lord and for tribal lords requesting and appealing is considered against the tribal traditions.

PATHANKOT DISASTER

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali SukhanverThe National Investigation Agency of India has issued summons to a Punjab Superintendent of Police, who was allegedly abducted by terrorists involved in the Pathankot attack. The probe agency has picked up some foot prints in the fields of a border village and the IAF base in Pathankot and sent them to central forensic lab for matching. Official sources did not rule out the possibility of subjecting the alleged Superintendent of Police to lie detector test. Involvement of an official belonging to a security agency is not only very much disappointing but also very much alarming. It is disappointing in a sense that the terrorists have become so strong in India that they succeeded in luring a high official to help them out in a terrorist activity. Certainly the government of India and the intelligence agencies of India will have to be more vigilant and more alert in keeping an eye on all officials working in security agencies of India along with the terrorists.Read More »PATHANKOT DISASTER

THE APS TRAGEDY

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali Sukhanver‘Where do the stars disappear when the daylight arrives’, I used to ask my mother when I was a little boy of three or four years. And my mother would always smilingly reply, ‘The stars never disappear; they simply come down on the earth and convert into flowers; you are my flower; you are my star’. That was really a very beautiful answer; I realize it now when my mother herself has gone to heaven. After spending almost half a century here in this world of dreams and desires, I feel the most trust-worthy and the most confident relationship is that of a mother and a child. In love of their children, mothers sacrifice all that they have and all that they own; but sometimes mothers have to sacrifice their children too. In Islamic societies such type of sacrifice is known as ‘Shahadat’. In the history of humanity, the 16th December 2014 would always narrate a strange story of the same type in which mothers of more than 134 innocent children had to bear the sacrifice of their children in the largest interest of their nation and their country. Their innocent children were brutally slaughtered as if they were animals, not human beings. And the most pathetic and unfortunate aspect of this story is that this slaughtering was done in the name of religion.Read More »THE APS TRAGEDY

NEW TURNING IN PAK-INDIA RELATIONS

  • by

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali SukhanverIf we blame the whole nation for the misdeeds of a handful of people it is simply injustice. It is true that after Mr. Modi’s coming into government, the extremist elements in the Indian society have become stronger, the incidents of cruelty against the Muslims have increased and one could very easily feel a wave of intolerance against the Muslims in India but it does not mean that the whole of the Indian society must be held responsible for the situation. On the whole the Indian people are peace loving and cordial in nature. They are very much successful in the field of science and technology, education, poetry and film-making. They own a very fertile heritage regarding culture and civilization but a handful of extremist element there is simply damaging the repute and character of the whole of Indian nation. Until unless a strict eye is kept on this extremist element no peace effort between India and her neighboring countries could be successful. Recently India’s Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj came to Pakistan to attend the Heart of Asia Security Conference. Her visit to Pakistan was in fact the first significant engagement between India and Pakistan since the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PM Narendra Modi in July at Ufa earlier this year. It is being hoped that this visit of Swaraj would pave way to better relations between Pakistan and India. During her visit she had a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad amid efforts by both countries to improve ties. Sources say that she conveyed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif India’s commitment to ‘good neighbourly relations’. Earlier talking at the ‘Heart of Asia Summit’, she said it was time that India and Pakistan displayed “maturity” in doing business with each other. She added that on India is prepared to move her cooperation at a pace which Pakistan is comfortable with.  Media reports say that the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to Pakistan in three years comes as part of a series of events following a surprise meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif in Paris two weeks ago on the sidelines of the climate change conference. That meeting led to secret talks between the National Security Advisors of both countries in Bangkok last week. Things are no doubt moving to a positive direction but for ‘good neighbourly relations’ the most important thing is to discourage the blame game which has become a hobby of different politicians and media-men in India. Two weeks back the Indian media at once started blaming Pakistan of supporting the freedom fighters in the Indian Occupied Kashmir without any proof. The tradition of dragging Pakistan into Kashmir conflict is very old but after Modi’s coming into power this tradition has become stronger. On one hand Muslim actors, film directors, poets and singers are being victimized in India, on the other hand the blame game with reference to the Indian Occupied Kashmir is also on its bloom. Every day the Indian newspapers are replete with the anti-Pakistan statements of the Indian extremist leaders.Read More »NEW TURNING IN PAK-INDIA RELATIONS

IF THEY ARE REALLY HELPING HANDS!

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali SukhanverRecently the FBR Pakistan has exposed a Karachi-based NGO which is apparently working for the betterment of Pakistani labourers but inwardly it is working for the hidden interests of Pakistan’s ever-worst hostile country India. Another report pointed out distribution of Indian books in more than 150 primary schools of interior Sind by an NGO. These books are allegedly published from Indian cities New Delhi and Bangalore. Report says that on the face of every book ‘Read India’ is printed. The runners of this NGO plead that they have distributed these books in few schools of Lasbaila, Quetta and Interior Sind. They say that they have acquired permission from the Secretary Education Sind for distribution of these books in Sind. In his writ-petition a resident of Khairpur Sind has asked the government of Sind to ban these books because there is objectionable material in these books. This report has put a question mark on the working of NGOs in Pakistan.Read More »IF THEY ARE REALLY HELPING HANDS!

JOURNEY TO HAPPINESS IN BALOCHISTAN

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali SukhanverStanding outside the scenario, it is always very easy to comment on a situation and analyze it without becoming a part of it. Same is the case with Balochistan. What is the actual issue of Balochistan; lawlessness, separatist elements, deprivation of the Baloch people, the negligence on the part of the past federal government or the indifference of the Baloch Sardars to the basic problems of the Baloch people? Various people might have various opinions in this regard but the actual analysis could be done only by the people of Balochistan.

The people of Balochistan complain that the federal government had never been serious in resolving their issues in the past. Every government gives importance to the Sardars and no doubt showers blessings upon them but these Sardars never share these blessings with the common people of Balochistan. There has ever been a serious lack of facilities regarding health, education and communication in Balochistan. The preciously beneficial Sui Gas is a source of providing energy to whole of the country but the people of Balochistan do not get any benefit of it. People are suffering from serious diseases because of scarcity of clear drinking water. Schools and colleges of standard education are few and far between and same is the case with roads and bridges. That is why the Baloch students have to proceed to Sind and Punjab for better education. No factories and no industrial projects are there to adjust the Baloch youth and to provide them job opportunities. In such a depressing situation rage and anger are very natural outcome.  It could be true that the people of Balochistan are very much dissatisfied with the indifference and unresponsiveness on the part of the federal and provincial governments and of the Sardars. But it does not mean that they want to be detached from Pakistan or they are seeking for ‘independence’ from Pakistan. Taking advantage of this scenario, various foreign supported elements are trying their utmost to change Balochistan into a blazing inferno but they have yet not succeeded simply because every Baloch heart is filled with love for Pakistan. Love never lets you say Good-Bye.Read More »JOURNEY TO HAPPINESS IN BALOCHISTAN

A KILLER IN UK

  • by

ALI SUKHANVER

Ali SukhanverFor the Indian Prime Minister Modi, his ongoing visit to UK is not going to be a very pleasant one as reports say that this visit seems controversial among some elements of the Indian community. A spokesman of the Sikh Human Rights Group said talking to the media, “Modi wants to sell the idea of a ‘Digital India’, a ‘Clean India’ and a ‘developed and self-sufficient India.’ The reality is the unleashing of violence packed authoritarian agenda that seeks to undermine India’s democratic and secular fabric.” The leaders of the Sikh community in UK have sent a list of proposals to New Delhi regarding their demands. These proposals include abolishing ‘blacklists’ of Sikhs living abroad who cannot travel to India, release of prisoners held for political reasons, and a dialogue between the Indian government and Sikhs based abroad. Of all those who are planning to protest during Modi’s visit to UK, the Sikhs are the most active ones. A UK-based non-governmental Sikh organization Sikh Federation has created a twitter handle (Dal Khalsa-UK) and a Google page to mobilize people for protests. Read More »A KILLER IN UK
