Latest studies indicate that drinking very hot beverages regularly almost doubles the risk of esophageal cancer. In 2016, World Health Organization warned about cancer risks associated with drinking hot beverages above 65C.
The latest study conducted by Tehran University of Medical Sciences has been published in International Journal of Cancer. Study involved around 50000 individuals aged between 40-75 years over a period of 13 years (2004 to 2017). During this period, 317 new cases were identified.
Scientists advise public to wait for the hot coffee and tea to cool down or add cold milk to coffee/tea to bring the temperature down. Taking seven hundred ML of Tea or Coffee above 60 degree centigrade is associated with 90 percent higher risk of esophageal cancer.
Recently a Chinese study has found that regularly drinking very hot tea could multiply by five times, the risk of developing esophageal cancer.
