* NA body Chairman Abid Sher Ali says commission’s report will be made public
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Education on Tuesday handed over 840 degrees of parliamentarians to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for verification.
The standing committee’s meeting was chaired by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Abid Sher Ali and attended by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, HEC Chairman Javaid Laghari, HEC Executive Director Sohail Naqvi, vice chancellors of different universities, officials of HEC and representatives of different ministries.
Abid Sher Ali said that out of 1170 MNAs and MPAs, the degrees of 840 parliamentarians have been sent to the HEC for verification. He said that the reports of the commission would be made public and sent to heads of different political parties as well. National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Rector Brigadier (r) Aziz Ahmed Khan gave a detailed briefing to the committee regarding the working of the university. The committee unanimously condemned the thrashing of NUML Professor Tahir Naeem Malik by the university Registrar Brigadier Ranjha.
The committee asked the rector to withdraw the show cause notice issued to Tahir Naeem Malik, who has been continuously harassed and threatened by the NUML administration. The committee also took serious notice of the violations of rules in appointing the administrative and academic staff. app
